In February of 1962, Silas and his brother-in-law’s brothers, Jerome and Eugene Davis, enlisted as Union soldiers. They served in Company I of the 17th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment until July 14th, 1965 when they were mustered out in Louisville, Kentucky. On August 11th, 1866, Silas married Sadilla Frost, first cousin of Mary Cass who his younger brother would marry later. Silas farmed his land in section 5 of Caledonia as their family grew to five children. He may also have farmed Sarah’s land while she lived in Iowa.
By 1885 the properties in section 5 were sold off. Jehu and Elsa lived elsewhere in Caledonia (perhaps Readfild in sec. 23 or 26), William bought 40 acres a few miles north in Mukwa, Sarah moved to Cadott in Chippewa County, and Silas and Sadilla moved with 4 children (Laura died in 1885) to 40 acres in section 2 of Caledonia. Silas, his wife Sadilla, and parents are buried in the D-108 family plot at Floral hill.
We have not identified any of the descendants of Silas by DNA match.
