Iddo’s second wife, Susan, was widowed September 11, 1864 when her first husband, Milton B. Farnham, died of abuse and scurvy in Andersonville, GA. Milton had been assigned to K, 4th WI Cavalry. Susan and Milton were married March 28, 1855 in T. Bovina (just north of T. Ellington) Outagamie County, had a son, Marcus Alva Farnham born June 21, 1857, and a daughter, Anna (per midwife), Amy (per Amy), or Emma (per Susan) Louisa Farnham born January 10, 1862.

On March 1, 1865, Iddo bought some land in T. Mukwa (the 56.2 acre lot 11 in section 31 and 30.48 acre lot 8 in section 32) by the Wolf River (see the map). On September 25, 1865, Iddo Cass was appointed as legal guardian of his step children. In 1870, according to the census, Iddo Cass and family, less Marcus (‘Edo’, Susan, Mary, Frederick, Ferdinand, Edward, Ira, Ella, and Amy Farnham) lived in T. Caledonia. Iddo died May 17, 1877. Amy Farnham married a Smith and in November 1885 filed a claim for an extra year of dependent’s pension ($2/mo.) due to an error in the records showing her birth year as 1861.

Iddo and Samantha’s daughter, Mary, became the matriarch of our Babcock family. About 1855, Iddo and Samantha settled in T. Ellington, Outagamie County where the rest of their children were born. Iddo enlisted on November 14, 1861. As a horse owner and good rider, he was assigned to the 1st WI Cavalry. Either wounded or ill, he was left in Good Samaritan Hospital, Benton Barracks, St. Louis, MO on April 30, 1862. In July 1862 he left the hospital for Samantha’s childbirth. Ida M. Cass was born in 17 August 1862 but Samantha died. Her gravestone at Floral Hill says "Symantha Cass, wife of Iddo."
