Children of John and Myrtle Smerling:
In 1897, Myrtie was married to John L “Jack” Smerling. Her first cousin’s husband, AP Davis, wed them as Justice of the Peace. James and Inez Davis, children of Charlotte and AP were the witnesses. They moved to Tustin on the north shore of Lake Poygan. John was a blacksmith. On 31 Jul 1900, they hosted the wedding of Myrtie’s brother, Harl, to John’s sister, Martha, in Tustin.
They moved to Eland Junction by January 1903 where their second child, Bessie, was born. Bessie died at 22 months and is buried in the D-108 family plot at Floral hill. By 1930 they had moved to Fond du lac.
Marietta married Roy Berg. In 1930, Roy worked in the railroad shops of Fond du lac and in 1940 they lived with her parents and Roy worked on the farm near Waupun. They had no children. George married Adeline Jewson. He worked in Fond du lac as a machinist for the Soo Line railroad. They had one child. Iva Smerling married Chester Smerling who, unless there is something we missed, was her first cousin. They had 4 healthy children. Chester was a self-employed plumber. Martha married Herman Deppe. He worked a farm in Rushford. They had one child. We have not identified any descendants of Myrtie by DNA match.
