In 1895, Mace’s father was living in New London. Mace, his mother, and his siblings Archie, Myrtle, Harl, George, and Robert were living in Caledonia, perhaps in that shack by the river, as the family tale goes. In 1900, at census time, Mace was a farmer, Archie and Myrtle had left the pack and Harl was about to leave. In 1903, his father died in Northport. In 1905 Mace, almost 32, was recorded as the head of the household. His mother, two brothers, and his “aunt” Mary Worden, lived with him in Northport, residence A.

Elizabeth “Liz” was a Northport resident with an older husband and two children, Leon and Dora Durkee. She left her husband and married Mace in 1907. They were married in Michigan where few questions were asked about divorce paperwork. They lived in or near section 22 of Matteson Township, where Mace’s Uncle Henry F Cass was living. Mace was an animal trapper.

Mace was in Minnesota in 1918, perhaps selling pelts, when he died. All we know is that the family paid to have his body sent back. We don’t know where Mace is buried. Liz then lived in New London before moving to Appleton. We have identified two descendant of Mace by DNA match.
