Isla was a music teacher, school teacher and china painting artist.
Eldon lived with his parents at least until age 26, and probably age 30 when his father Silas died. Eldon was a schoolteacher. One of his students was his first cousin, Robert Babcock.
In 1905 Eldon was working for a neighbor, Alfred Buttolph as a servant. His older brother, Allen was married and had taken over the farm. In 1910, Eldon was a cheesemaker, living in Liberty with his sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Albert Fehrman. In 1918, when he registered with the draft board he was a cheese inspector living in Neenah. In 1920, he was a cheesmaker boarding in Birnamwood.
In 1928, age 54, he was married for the first time. In 1930, he was farming between New London and Hortonville in Hortonia. In 1940, his wife was at their house in New London and he was at the farm in Hortonia.
