Children of Allen and Lodema Babcock:

Alice(29 Feb 1904 - 18 Jul 1920)
Allen lived with his parents in Caledonia until he was 30. Allen was a farm laborer on his father’s farm.

Lodema “Dema” McGregor married Paul Benedict in 1896. After serving in the Spanish-American War, Paul died of pneumonia leaving Lodema with two children, Marion, 3, and Max, 5 months. In 1902, Allen married Dema Benedict.

Allen and Dema had a daughter, Alice, in February of 1904 and Silas died in December that year. Allen took over the farm. In 1905, Allen and Dema and the 3 children lived there but his mother, Sadilla, was living elsewhere. In 1910 Sadilla had come back to live with Allen and Dema. The 1912 plat map shows that Allen owned that farm. In 1920, still there, Marion Benedict, 23, was a teacher, Max Benedict, 20 was working on the farm, and Alice Babcock 16, was attending school. That summer, Alice died and was buried at Floral Hill Cemetery in the D-126 family plot.

In March of 1930 Allen took his own life. The 1930 census recorded in April showed that Marion was married to Stewart Smiley and they had taken in Dema. Max, 30, was single, living alone, next door to his Aunt Bell and Uncle Charlie.
