Children of Silas and Sadilla Babcock:
In February of 1862, Silas and his sister’s brothers-in-law, Jerome and Eugene Davis enlisted. They served in Company I of the 17th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment and mustered out July 14th, 1965 in Louisville, Kentucky. On August 11th, 1866, Silas married Sadilla Frost, first cousin of Mary Cass who his younger brother would marry later. Silas farmed his land in section 5 of Caledonia as their family grew to five children. He may also have farmed Sarah’s land while she lived in Iowa.
The 1885 Wisconsin Census and the 1889 land owners map show that the original properties had sold by 1885. Jehu and Elsa have moved a few miles south to Readfield, William and family were a few miles north, Sarah’s location is unknown, and Silas and family had moved a few miles east. Silas and his wife Sadilla are buried in the D-108 family plot at Floral Hill along with their daughter, Laura, his sisters, Alsina and Sarah, his brother, William, his great niece, Bessie, and his parents. Silas’ son, Allen, is listed as the owner of the lots.
We have not identified any descendants of Silas by DNA match.
